In most parts of India, we can’t go to bed without lighting mosquito coils and we wake up to the smell of incense burning each morning. But while those fumes may keep mosquitoes at bay and the gods happy, your lungs are crying out for sweet relief.

The burning of mosquito coils and incense sticks, called agarbatti here, is commonplace across most of Asia, what with the burgeoning mosquito population, and our unending desire to please the gods. Unfortunately, the health risks from both products are very real and have been highlighted by several studies.
