All of the mentioned pollutants release poisonous gasses and chemicals in the air. Luckily, we can control the quality of indoor air, and refresh it with certain types of plants that were tested and proven as very effective by NASA.

NASA studies showed that ample plants can detoxify up to 85% of the indoor air pollution. In the late 80’s, NASA looked for plants that can purify the air in their space facilities. They made detailed research and examined the ability of 15 plants to remove 3 common indoor air pollutants like trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, and benzene.

According to NASA’s study, best air purifiers were Arce Palm, Mother in law’s tongue, and Gerbera Daisy.

  1. Areca Palm

This is a very popular plant. It’s suitable for indoor environment, and releases a lot of moisture in the air. Areca palm is considered as the most effective air purifier. It remove CO2 from the air and converts it into oxygen. Four plants per person in your house is the ideal ratio. Don’t forget to wipe the leaves of the plants every day.

  1. Mother in law’s Tongue

Mother in law’s Tongue or Snake is a common plant that also can convert CO2 to oxygen. This plant filters benzene, xylene, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde from the air. 6-8 plants per person will be ideal.

  1. Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera Daisy or Gerbera Jamesoni is a pretty decorative plant that filters the indoor air very effectively. Just like the other two plants, releases oxygen during the night and helps you to sleep and breathe better. This is the best plant for those who suffer from asthma.
