We have all noticed stickers on the fruits we buy, but are not aware what they actually mean. They represent information about the fruit and its way of growth. The PLU code shows whether the fruit is organic or GMO, whether it contains pesticides, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and more.
- 4 digit code that starts with 3 or 4 – it means that the fruit contains pesticides and was a conventional growth
- 5 digit PLU code that starts with 9 – it has grown according to the USDA organic standards, and it is organic.
- 5 digit code that starts with 8 – this is a GMO product.
