Even though almonds are considered to be the healthiest foods on Earth, there is something you need to know about them. And you are not going to like it. Most of the almonds that have been sold in the USA have been fumigated with propylene oxide. This is a chemical that causes cancer.
It was illegal in 2007 to sell raw almonds in the USA. An outbreak of salmonella in Canada brought about this law. It was traced back to an almond grower in California. There was a help offered to him by the California Dpt. Of Health Services, but that appeared to be the end of it.
Shortly after this, there was a second salmonella outbreak, and a couple of government agencies got together in order to mandate treatment so there will be no more outbreaks.
