Even ancient Romans and Greeks were aware about the healing properties that rosemary owns. This plant was dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite. Back in history were the plague raged, many people put rosemary on their foreheads to protect themselves from this infection.
Medieval books contain data that rosemary was used for digestive problems due to its bitter substances. In that time it was also well- known for its positive effect on the bloodstream. It is recommended for consumption after serious diseases and strengthens the heart in the older population usually consumed as rosemary wine. Rosemary was main ingredient in the Hungarian water, a drug that was consumed by the Hungarian queen Isabella in 14thcentury. When she was 72 years old, she suffered from gout but after a year of consuming this medicine she healed and regained her beauty and health.
More recent studies show that rosemary is one strong antioxidant that slows the process of aging. Rosemary contains flavonoids that promote circulation, strength capillaries and improve blood flow in the veins, which explains the traditional use for improvement of circulation. It is often used against headache, for hair growth, soothing effect on digestive organs, stomach cramps and constipation. Studies have shown that an extract of rosemary increases the secretion of bile juices which are very important for digestion. Another research which was published in 1995 showed that Rosemary is a diuretic and helps the liver to get rid of toxic substances. It has anti- inflammatory effect, antibacterial effect and beneficial effect on cough and it can be used as treatment against infections on nose, ears and throat.
The rosemary is very effective when it comes to body strengthening. Mixed with sunflower oil after rubbing the sore spot it will reduce the pain in muscles, sciatica and all the rheumatic pains. The tea and bath from it are also useful.
Rosemary extract stimulates circulation on the crown of the head so if you apply it there on the skin of the scalp you will prevent the premature deterioration of hair. Can be also beneficial in cases of dandruff.
